• Ha Long Bay cruise departures: Tuan Chau International Marina is one of the main passenger gateways for day and overnight cruises.
• A low-stress overnight before an early cruise: staying near the marina can remove morning transfer uncertainty.
• Easy vehicle access: unlike Ti Top or Sung Sot, Tuan Chau is connected to the mainland by road and has large parking areas around the marina zone.
• Optional entertainment: Tuan Chau Park operates separately from the island itself and uses its own ticketing and show schedules.
• Cat Ba connection: the Tuan Chau–Gia Luan ferry departs from a different terminal, so cruise passengers should not assume every “Tuan Chau port” is the same place.

The Island Is Free — the Attractions Are Not

You do not pay an admission fee simply to enter Tuan Chau Island.

The cost begins when you use a specific service: a cruise, hotel, amusement park, beach service, ferry, restaurant or other paid facility.

That distinction matters because online pages sometimes quote a Tuan Chau Park ticket as though it were an island entrance fee. It is not. The island is open-access; individual businesses and attractions set their own prices.

Stay Here When an Early Cruise Is the Priority

Tuan Chau makes the most sense as an overnight base when your cruise checks in early or you want to avoid a morning transfer from another part of Ha Long.

Staying close to the marina lets you reach the passenger terminal with less traffic risk and gives you time to use the terminal facilities before boarding.

This is particularly useful for families, older travelers or anyone carrying larger luggage. The benefit is convenience, not nightlife.

Bai Chay Makes More Sense for Evening Life

If your cruise timing is easy and you want more restaurants, cafés, shops and evening activity, Bai Chay is usually the more practical place to stay.

Tuan Chau can feel quiet after cruise departures, and recent travelers repeatedly describe limited dining and shopping choice compared with the busier mainland tourism areas.

That does not make Tuan Chau a poor base. It simply means the island works best when marina access matters more than urban atmosphere.

Do Not Underestimate Distances Around the Island

Tuan Chau is not a compact pedestrian island.

The marina, hotels, beach, entertainment areas and ferry facilities are spread across a developed road network. A location that looks close on a map can still be inconvenient on foot in hot weather or with luggage.

Check the exact distance from your hotel to the correct terminal before booking. “Tuan Chau Island” in the address does not automatically mean the property is beside your cruise check-in desk.

Use the Marina Facilities Before Boarding

Tuan Chau International Marina has established passenger infrastructure including large waiting halls, seating, toilets, shops, food options and parking.

If you are waiting for a cruise, use the toilet and organise water, tickets and luggage before the boarding call rather than relying on the final few minutes at the gangway.

Current terminal information also identifies accessible parking, entrance and toilet facilities in the passenger-terminal area. That does not mean every part of the island has the same accessibility standard.

Parking Is Easy, but Do Not Trust Old Fee Lists

Large parking areas are available around the marina and passenger facilities, making Tuan Chau much easier for self-drivers than island attractions reached only by boat.

However, parking tariffs quoted on older blogs are inconsistent. This guide does not publish an unverified fixed vehicle fee.

If you leave a car or motorbike while taking a cruise, use the designated marina parking area and confirm the posted charge when you arrive.

Treat the Beach as a Bonus Rather Than the Main Reason to Come

Tuan Chau has a developed beach area with visitor services, but the beach experience is more variable than the cruise infrastructure.

Recent traveler feedback is mixed: some visitors appreciate the quiet setting, while others comment on water appearance, maintenance or a lack of atmosphere outside busy periods.

If you are already staying on the island, the beach can be a convenient place to relax. If beach quality is the main reason for choosing a destination, check the actual water and weather conditions before building your stay around it.

Photograph the Marina Before the Boats Leave

The marina is one of Tuan Chau’s more distinctive photography subjects because dozens of Ha Long Bay vessels can be visible together before the departure wave.

Morning works well for the busy harbour atmosphere. Later in the day, the waterfront and beach become more useful when the light softens.

If you want a photograph that actually says “Tuan Chau” rather than a generic beach image, the cruise basin and passenger harbour usually provide stronger context.

Tuan Chau Park Is Optional, Not Part of the Island Entry

Tuan Chau Park operates as a separate paid attraction.

Current 2026 pricing lists a 300,000 VND adult combination ticket for four park areas and a 100,000 VND adult combination ticket for three park areas. Current published schedules also include dolphin and seal shows at 10:00 and 15:00, while the farm attractions operate in morning and afternoon sessions.

These prices and schedules can change independently of the island, so travelers should treat them as park-specific information rather than Tuan Chau opening hours.

Do Not Confuse the Cruise Marina with the Cat Ba Ferry Terminal

Tuan Chau serves both Ha Long Bay cruises and the ferry connection to Gia Luan on Cat Ba Island, but they are not the same passenger operation.

If you are continuing to Cat Ba, follow the Tuan Chau–Gia Luan ferry information rather than your Ha Long cruise instructions. The ferry has its own timetable and can be affected by weather.

This distinction becomes especially important when a taxi driver or hotel only asks for “Tuan Chau port.” Show the exact terminal or service name to avoid being dropped at the wrong side of the island.

Best Time Depends on Why You Are Using Tuan Chau

If you are boarding a cruise, the best time to arrive is simply early enough for your operator’s check-in, with extra time for parking, toilets and ticket verification.

If you are staying overnight, late afternoon is more pleasant for the waterfront and beach than the hottest part of the day.

During weekends and holiday periods, allow more time around the marina because passenger traffic, coaches and cruise check-ins can build quickly.

How Tuan Chau Became a Ha Long Gateway

Tuan Chau developed from a small island area into a major tourism and passenger-transport hub connected directly to the mainland by road.

Its modern role is closely tied to Ha Long Bay tourism: large passenger facilities, cruise berths, hotels and entertainment infrastructure transformed the island into a practical departure point rather than an isolated offshore destination.

That development explains the island’s unusual character today. Tuan Chau is part resort area, part transport hub and part entertainment zone, which is why travelers should plan it differently from natural islands inside Ha Long Bay.

Practical Choices Before You Book a Hotel or Cruise

• Check the exact terminal before choosing a hotel. Tuan Chau Island is larger than a walkable marina district.
• Stay here for convenience, not nightlife. It is strongest for early cruise departures and simple overnight staging.
• Use the terminal toilet before boarding. The marina has proper passenger facilities, so there is little reason to wait until the last minute.
• Confirm parking charges on arrival. Parking is available, but old online fee lists are inconsistent.
• Do not confuse cruise and ferry terminals. The Cat Ba ferry and Ha Long cruise operations use different facilities.
• Check beach conditions before swimming. Treat the beach as an optional extra rather than assuming it will be the highlight of the island.
